Lucky Shot
Lucky Shot. This truly was exactly that. While usually I have a mind set to go and shoot something, loading up my gear, driving to a location at a specific time, checking the weather forecast, the sunset times, making sure I have the correct clothing, none of that was the case for this shot.
I was sitting in the living room, watching the news on TV before we went out to grab a fish fry for dinner on Friday night. I got up and walked across the room, looked out the window at the sunset, noticed the snow flurries in the air, how they sparkled in the bright light of the setting sun. I thought that's pretty cool and grabbed my "everyday run out the door" camera opened the sliding glass door and snapped away. I've gotten quite a lot of comments mentioning the surreal, painterly look of this photo. While I do use filters and post edit sometimes to achieve a look, the same thing as capturing the photo applies, that was not the case for this shot.
NIKON D7000, Tamron 16-300 @ 300 mm, Shutter Speed 1/80 s, f/10, ISO 160, Exposure Bias Value -0.67 eV, Metering Mode, Center weighted average. Straight out of the camera, no edits, no crop.
Lucky shot.

A Break
A break from the new house / property posts. I thought I'd share some of my photography of one my favorite places, Letchworth State Park. Enjoy!

Before and After
Backing up photo files to my external hard drive, a Sunday ritual. I came across a photo from the summer after I had installed the new mailbox at our property on Papermill Road. I realized looking at it I had just taken a photo the other day when I was there to document the house demolition that was a pretty close match. I thought back to how much work we've done since we bought the property. We were talking the other night about how time is really moving along and that we're excited for the build to start in April!
Before
After
After the pad for the barn was built Marcea decided to plant wildflowers, which will be a main focus once the new house is built, wildflowers and native grasses throughout the property. This was a test area.
Trimming the suckers off the pear tree.
The new Crimson King Maple being planted.
First project, last year. Driveway and pad for the barn.
Done!
Camping on the new pad before the barn was built.
Hollow oak coming down. We called it the "Keebler Tree".
Taking a break.
The RV and Rosie enjoying the new barn.
Summer evening, our favorite view.
The adventure continues!
